Cobain Series

Tribute (TW // mental illness, suicide, death or dying)

Rockstar Kurt Cobain left this world by choice, revealing the nature of his battle with substance abuse and major depressive disorder (MDD). Cobain emphasizes being misunderstood, alone, and disconnected. The Cobain Series speaks for those who are seen and not heard, inviting readers to address stigmas around depression with "peace, love, and empathy" as Cobain once wrote in this suicide letter.

Cobain I

I want to be a star;                                  *

Someone who sparks fires.

And shines light in the world

But I am not the only star                 *

In a sky full of faces

That glow side by side.                                         *

 **

Stars burn out,

Slow and sudden,

Leaving an empty space

In a sparkling universe.

I want to be a star,

But I cannot reignite

My golden self,

My body into a wish.

I am a star

That no one can reach,

Sprinting in the sky,

Not burning out

Quite fast enough.

Cobain II.

I try to pretend

That people are stars

Hard to see, to reach

**

I am a dreamer

Who wishes

That I can join                                                                   *

My friends in the sky

                                                                                                     *

It is a lot easier

To die away, to dim

Than keep my shine                                                     *

Are people stars

Or am I shooting away

From myself and them

*

My light is dying

Moving too quickly

And too bright

For anyone to see.
